Build & Decorate: Creative Cake Decorating
Create a beautiful, bakery-style cake in this fun and beginner-friendly decorating class! Whether you’re making something special to save for an upcoming holiday, surprise a friend, celebrate a birthday, or simply enjoy a creative night out, this class is all about decorating a cake that feels uniquely you.
Each student will receive a pre-crumb-coated 6” vanilla cake, silky Vanilla Swiss Meringue Buttercream, and access to a variety of piping tips, edible décor, sprinkles, textures, colors, and decorative elements to bring their vision to life.
How the Class Works
We’ll begin with a few quick decorating demos and hands-on practice sheets to help you feel comfortable with basic piping, buttercream textures, and decorating techniques. Then the fun begins—students will have the freedom to get creative and decorate their cake in their own style.
Want something elegant and minimal? Vintage piping? Colorful and whimsical? Garden-inspired? Cute and playful? We’ll help guide your design while giving you the creative freedom to make it your own.
Throughout class, we’ll share tips for:
- Creating smooth buttercream finishes
- Simple piping and borders
- Fun textures and decorating styles
- Working with edible décor and embellishments
- Making your cake feel polished and personal

No experience needed—this class is perfect for beginners, creative hobby bakers, girls’ nights, or anyone wanting to make something beautiful (and delicious!) to enjoy at home or gift to someone special.
Must Know Before Class: Classes are held at The Bake Studio at May’s Parlor (3497 Holland Rd, Suite 102, Virginia Beach). Please arrive 10–15 minutes early — classes begin promptly, and late arrivals may miss hands-on portions. Closed-toe shoes are required, and comfortable clothing is recommended (aprons provided). Our classes take place in a real working commercial bakery, so participants will sign a quick waiver upon arrival. We recommend having a snack or meal beforehand, as classes are focused on baking and food service is not provided. Need to sit with a friend booked separately? Within 5 days of class, tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, though you are welcome to gift your spot to a friend.
